"Why," you ask? Because we want profile pages to have freedom of customization, but also to have some consistency. This way, when anyone visits a deviant, they know they can always find the art in the top left, and personal info in the top right.

Me? I don't go into people's work and say "aww, cute!" so that the deviant can also go to my work and say the same thing. I crit on people's work, tell them how to improve on it. If I really have no knowledge whatsoever on the piece (if it's a photo or something), I tell them what I like and what I don't like about it.
But people don't seem to like criticism and or advice. They want the people who go "aww, cute" every single time they comment. Well then that's what you've become, DA; cute.
